Shops are flooding with cards and gifts, Sunday lunch dates are being firmed up – Mothering Sunday is heading our way and its difficult to not get caught up in the excitement. I’m a mother and I have to confess I love it, but I want to be able to step back and remember that for some people it is the opposite, Mothering Sunday is the saddest day of the year. It is a painful reminder of loss, bereavement or never experiencing.
I’m treading carefully here – I am not assuming everyone wants to have a child, far from it, I know many people, for whom motherhood simply is not part of their life plan. But, I guess I am saying, from the heart, let’s all be sensitive and not bulldoze through the day without taking a moment to reflect.
If you have a moment do consider supporting some of the wonderful organisations supporting bereaved families.
