We love the Bow Sewing Bee, it meets up locally at Snap,Roman Road from 6.30-8.30pm and in a phew, what-a-relief, really, kinda-way it is open to everyone like us (the fingers and thumbs brigade) ie totally inexperienced through to experienced sewing mavens who can knock up a frock with some fab vintage fabric from Olive Road, the guys creating and teaching at the ‘bee’.
Olive Road London is an independent, online vintage fabric shop, created by Bow based creative Sarah Richards who holds cool, fun social sewing events year round. She’s being sewing, as she puts it since ‘I don’t know when’ and formalised that love when she trained at the London College of Fashion. She explains so beautifully about why we should all embrace vintage
‘Vintage is the ultimate form of recycling, giving a new lease of life to a unique piece of fabric that has a story to tell. Each piece is individually selected making it unlikely that you will find it anywhere else. I take the time to source good quality, vibrant and unique fabrics, giving designers and makers more time to make an ethical product.’
Olive Road launched in September 2014 and got its name from the street that Sarah’s Nan and Grandad lived in for 60 years.
Sewing Bee dates at Snap (£5.50 per session)
