The wonderful thing about having an excuse to dress up in the autumn is that nature has handed us a fabulous palate and so many ideas we don’t even know where to start. We love this and its easy to make too. Great for Halloween and a simple craft idea that can be combined with an outing to collect the leaves.
Crepe paper in colours of your choice
Brown tape (check out what florists, gardeners or crafters use – sticky one size so it gives compete coverage over wire)
A glue stick
Leaves from the garden or park or leaves you have cut out and colored in yourself cut out from a template
Here’s how you make it
Use real leaves for stencils or check back in for more of our halloween leaf stencil cut outs
Cut out each leaf from a double layer of crepe paper (grain lengthwise down the leaf)
Cut a three and a half inch lengths of crafting wire (18 gauge – flexible)
Completely cover the piece of wire with the brown tape so there are no sharpe edges or pointy bits sticking out – if you think they might come through keep adding layers of brown tape
Making the headdress
Cut a piece of wire (18 gauge – flexible) long enough to make a circular crown shape to fit the size of the wearer with an extra full one inch of wire added in.
As above fully cover in the brown tape so there are no sharp edges or chance of them poking through
Cut out leaf shapes and glue them or sticky tape them onto the wire (there are so many methods just do what works for you)
Twist the two ends together to make your crown into a circle again make sure you cover anything sharp thoroughly
Now you know how make your branches any size you like and wrap them around arms, legs, shoulder to hip!
With thanks to Martha Stewart for her fab halloween idea and photo
